saying goodbye

before you flame me for trying to get a bunny and a dog to live together in harmony... remember that i did it just fine for many years...

but today that ended...i awoke to find that Archi had died, at the "paw" of O'Reilly. He just isn't wired like Lakota is and Oliver was, to cohabitate with other critters. He had been doing fine for a month or so, but part of that was due to the fact that he had an injury keeping him from feeling great.

made me miss Oliver again today... and i'm REALLY missing Archi. This is hard.

this site will remain up as it is, a tribute to my best bun, Archi Ann, unique in all the world. she was soooo cool, all attitude and character.

i will continue any animal and personal postings at my blog, Archi's Mum (please update your bookmarks).

Thank you ALL for your friendship over the blogs for so long. It's a fun thing and I have appreciated you all in so many ways. Thanks for the prayers, "purrayers," nose bumps, etc... this is REALLY HARD for me ... archi was a great friend.

i don't have a decision on my other two buns, chances are I will make the outdoor enclosure bulletproof and let them stay there. i'm torn but i still think they will have a better life here, semi enclosed, then they would some places. but my hopes for having a house rabbit again have vanished because O'Reilly has crossed the line.

That's the horrible noise Mum was playing when she worked on the rabbit garden Sunday. I guess when she ditches church to work on the yard she starts listening to weird music!

I guess none of my bunny and kitty and doggie friends have Mums that torture them with 70s punk music when they're working around the yard. You're so lucky... and what's worse... she has MORE of it, not just that one album! that one is just her favorite!

Mum didn't get an "easy like Sunday morning..."

BDP thinks the digging is hard work!

But when he sees new dirt he wants to dig more...

... until he finally admits he's just dog tired!

Mum bought great plants - rosemary, cilantro, mint, and yes, Fiona, BASIL!
She also put more grass down.
She told me even though I'm not going to live out there
she will make sure I get lots of the plants.

After she puts a fence up she's going to line the outside of the enclosure
with tomato plants for shade.

While mum was working hard I was inside being tortured by this stuff she was playing.
She called it music.

I didn't get it at all... then I heard words saying, Mama's Boy! and I thought maybe it was a song about O'Reilly. But I gotta tell you I totally related more to this one song where I kept hearing the guy say, "My brain is hanging upside down" because that's totally how I felt hearing it! And all I could think after that was, "Mister programmer, I've got my hammer, gonna smash my smash my radio." Oh wait, I think I heard that coming from the music too.

Weird stuff!

Anyone know what band and album it is?... there might be a cool prize in it for you...

It's Tuesday morning... mum filled my pellets Saturday night and i'm just now needing more... MUM!!! Of course, she has filled them up again and gave me fresh, hay free water... and wishes she had gotten video of me grunting and charging at her while she did it.
Have a chillaxin' day ... it's sposed to be cooler today, only into the 80s - was 100 yesterday!

The pellet comparison...

Riena and Zinger have a new scoop of pellets. And they're already digging in.

Where as here is Archi Ann with the same scoop from last night. She's nibbled a bit but man, as you can see, it's just too hot to care! And besides, she's been munching on the nice timothy and orchard grasses.

Mum is doing this crazy thing - pushing this big machine around and making tons of noise. For a while she locked us in the bathroom. Then she clipped our nails before she let us out!!! Our house was all nice and clean when she was done, but it was just weird to watch her. It's like nothing we've ever seen before.

Well Archi Ann wanted to do The Little Prince because she really wants me to reread it. She thinks i spend way too much time on "Matters of Consequence" and not enough time enjoying life! Unfortunately it only has 92 pages. So we thought, lets use page 23 but page 23 has a picture of the baobabs on it!

So I took over the blog and am doing a book I am reading called God is the Gospel by John Piper.

We have, not just will have, eternal life.

Archi, meanwhile, is hunkered down in her house protecting her bed from Big Dumb Puppy. He has taken to sticking his head in her house to steal her bed and play with it. I guess if it's stuffed, he thinks it's his toy!

Well hello all. I wanted to share with you a great treat Mum just received today from our friends Joanna and Captain Rupert.

As for me, I've been out a bit more, found a nice spot to hunker down between the couch and Mum's table.

It's a good spot! Big Dumb Puppy even has his moments when he is calm and I can be out. I guess he's growing up.

I ran around the house last night when everyone was sleeping!!! it was soooo much fun! sorry i don't have a picture but i woke mum up and she didn't wanna get outta bed and take pics!

it was lots of fun - ran back and forth from the bedroom to the living room, ran under the bed, bugged zinger and riena and big dumb puppy didn't bother me. hound dogs are pretty lazy when they wanna sleep!

Chillaxin'

Yes I'm in a cage but I rather like it here. There's no door on it so I could come out but Big Dumb Puppy is out there so I'd rather be in here! Mum has decided I'm going to be an indoor bun forever and she's going to put Riena and Zinger in the outdoor enclosure. I'm rather happy about that. I guess Zinger has a bad tendency to piddle on the carpet so Mum wants them out! I'd rather be indoors chillaxin' around the house. BDP is settling down but not enough yet.

Hey Gang! Sorry I missed my Monday Bunday post. But we have good news!

Mum found a home for Abbey. A nice couple who have a girl dog that wants a playmate! There was a little growling at first but Roxie likes Abbey. In fact Abbey got a little frightened by some dogs next door to them and walked away when they were barking. They said Roxie ran over to her and "brought" her back! She's been there since Saturday afternoon.

We are still open to take her back if it doesn't work out but it sounds like it's going to!

in defense of the bath...

Ok I know, I'm just horrible, bathing a bun and all! Archi's front arms don't work so good and she was quite dirty! But she definitely does not approve!

Here's my defense. Everything in her enclosure died, except the dirt! So now I'm tearing it up and going to replant. I need to plant plenty of Basil, Cilantro and all kinds of other yummy stuff, plus grass to relax on! Unfortunately for her it'll probably take about a month. I'll add more dirt and plant this weekend but i want the plants to take solid root and get big before I move her back in.

Here is O'Reilly helping clean up some of the bunny poo - he's so helpful!

And I think what I'm going to have to do here is cut the front off the hutch. She took to doing all her potty stuff in the front portion on the dirt and I couldn't get in there and clean it out. The hutch was hooked to the fencing keeping me from pulling it up to clean it out. I was quite concerned but have not wanted to bring her back inside with the pup. If I had it my way she'd live in the house. Today I opened her cage door so she could hop out but O'Reilly just won't leave her alone. Sigh...
and archi approves of the redo'ing her enclosure part of this message, not the bath part or the part about this probably taking a month allowing time for the plants to take solid root.

Fiona, I know I'm not a Meezer Bun like you but could you do a rule about no water torture for buns, or as Mum calls it, a bath.

First she takes me out of my home, then bathes me, then clips my nails, then puts me in the cage for the night.

Now she says it's cuz she's gonna clean out and plant my place with new BASIL and MINT and all kinds of nice grass, but sheesh. She said I'd like the dirt washed off, but I liked the dirt!

Happy Easter to y'all and to my believing friends ... He is RISEN INDEED! Mum has kept a close eye on all us buns this week to make sure we don't go mugging little kids for their Easter baskets like Giacomo did...

Mum hasn't let me blog for a while and I've missed reading everyone's posts. I'll get back to that today. She has been hogging the computer doing work and taxes and everytime i'd bug her to move over she'd mumble something about being "busy with matters of consequence." me thinks she needs to reread The Little Prince

Anyway, the OTHER thing mum did was went and took in another barker that needs a home. this one wandered into her friend's yard one sunday several weeks ago. her friend looked for her family but they think she was actually abandoned in the neighborhood. no one recognized her. so after no one claimed her mums friend was going to keep her but she doesn't get along with female dogs very well so she and Jazz, mum's friend's dog, don't get along.

so now she's here till mum can find her a good home. her friend named her Abbey. she is a good pup, and appears to have had a very abusive past from her reactions. so we are happy to have her and help her.

but it's been crazy around here too because of it. mum took the dogs to the wash to play in the water yesterday and Abbey seemed to panic and ran back to the car like she didn't want to be left. mum has to keep her and lakota pretty separated so they don't growl at each other and fight. we hope to find a good home for her soon. she is a very good dog.

Hey guys! Remember Sam, O'Reilly's brother that Mum fostered? Well he's been doing great and just got a NEW SISTER!!! They rescued her from a really bad situation! Poor Sam was on the euth list at the pound and then this dog had a rough life so they saved two lives! Pretty cool!

Digging to Australia...

Well sorry I've not blogged lately. Been kinda busy. You see I believe I still owe Katie some nail polish for not telling Mum about my party when she was in Tucson... and since she's growing her nails now I wanted to get it to her.

I've always heard if you dig deep enough you'll get to China but that doesn't make sense, since Australia is down under it seems like that is where you would end up. So I've been trying to dig to Katie's house. It's tiring, especially with my floppy legs. But I've been working hard at it. Mum is impressed but she keeps saying something about how i won't get out because of Chicken Wire... what do chickens have to do with my digging?

Anyway, since it's Sunday and Mum is sposed to be at church I thought I'd catch up on my blogging and visit my friends. I need a break from all the hard work!

This is Clara, a bun that Aunt Janay is fostering for the same lady that brought mum the three big white buns. Aunt Janay is outta town so she came here for the week.

yes i'm grumpy, more rain is coming and mum says she won't clean out my enclosure until after the rains so she can plant stuff. i think it's an excuse. and she picked me up this morning in spite of the grunting i put up. why do humans think they need to pick us up and pet us? of course the petting massage was kind of nice but you didn't hear that from me

Saturday Foster Update

Well today was the chore day for Mum, cleaning out the foster bun areas is a Saturday morning activity! Mum has to wear a mask because of her allergies and she looks really funny but I didn't get any pictures of her!

This is Snowflake, she's bonded to Peter.

Peter has a bigger head, almost looks more like a hare head than a bunny head and his BIG EARS! He's the one eating at the bowl.

Here are a couple of pictures of Holly romping while Mum cleaned her pen. She's a sweet bun, the smallest of the three.

So I thought this was a great picture to show you how I got my name. My Mum's little sister adopted me when i was just a furry baby bun. They all thought I was a boy. Risti saw the white against brown sillouette and thought it made the shape of Jughead from the Archie comics. See the tip of his hair outline on the top left and then the face and nose. But she kindly did not want to name me Jughead (thanks Risti) so she named me Archie.

But alas, when my Mum adopted me from Risti and brought me to California from Tucson and took me to the vet for a little *ahem* surgery, they said "You should have named her Veronica!" Mum thought (and I agreed) that Archi was still a good name and she just added Ann. I like it pretty much.

Her Mum now says, "I don't know what you do out there in California but when we gave you that bunny it was a boy!"

Hey blog friends. Sorry it's been so long, Mum gave some lame excuse like end of month work and stuff but i think she's just hogging the computer. I think it's high time she got me my own computer!

The rains stopped for a couple days then started back up this weekend and today it just POURED! crazy!

Well I think the first thing I'd do is sneak into the house and do something horrible that Mum could only blame on Big Dumb Puppy. Something that I'm sure would get him kicked out of the house forever.

Then I'd hop in the house when Mum was coming in and out of my enclosure and I'd sneak in the bedroom and open Riena and Zinger's enclosures so they could hop out...

Then we'd surround the computer while she wasn't expecting us and take over the house! We'd have to do it in a way that she still works so she can buy us treats and stuff, but it's high time the buns took over instead of the barkers!

Hey there! Mum wanted to share some pictures of Betsy with you. She just went to visit her tonight and give her the neat toy and treat that Sam sent her for Christmas. I told her I'd post them on my site so you all could see them!

So here's Betsy with her Mom and her new toy and her sister Sadie. She is VERY HAPPY in her forever home. Mum said she was going nuts wiggling and jumping and so excited when Mum visited. It was lots of fun.

litter boxes

At Rabbits' Guy's request I took some pictures of what I've used to keep certain rabbits from digging in their litter boxes. Archi Ann was the WORST at digging but Riena does a fair share herself.

I use white vinyl shelving because it's easy on them and doesn't look too bad. I got scraps from a friend who was tossing it. Cut it up with bolt cutters to fit your litter box. I work with the form so that there aren't any sharp edges - like cutting after a crossbar and putting the cut end on the front of the box because my rabbits tend to sit at the back of the litter box.

In this pic I had found some different, lighter vinyl shelving. I like it best. but the shelf above fit nice and tight in the box.

For this shelf the bunnies tend to pull it off so I drilled a couple holes in the front of the box and used zip ties to wrap and hold it.
When I first started this i had to stack the litter above the height of the shelf so they use it. You know how bunnies are - they HATE change... they seemed to need to feel the litter. But once they got used to it I could use less litter. I use Yesterday's News because it's easy to clean, you don't have to use much at a time, it doesn't stink and doesn't cost much from PetSmart.

and Mum's at it again...

It's a little wet around here - rained all weekend. But I love it - even though I can go in my hutch I love sitting under the eaves and watching the rain and playing in it!

Saturday while I was hanging out I watched Mum working on the shed, putting up tarps and cleaning out the garage and pulling out all her bunny stuff... I wasn't sure what was going on...

but then it happened! A car pulled in and cages came out and bunnies, big white bunnies! BIG WHITE BUNNIES!!!

Mum says they're fosters - a woman was having to move and needed a temporary home for her rabbits while she got resettled. So they are living in the carport. They are New Zealand bunnies.

The bonded pair are Peter and Snowflake. The other bunny is Holly.

Mum is really proud of how calm O'Reilly is being around them.

They are really sweet bunnies. They will be here for the month I guess.

And as you can see, Big Dumb Puppy is back! Mum got home REALLY LATE Tuesday. Which was good, gave me time to clean up after the big New Year's Eve Bash. Apparently Katie told my Mum she'd check in on us and make sure we were behaving. I was able to bribe her by promising some cool new nail color shades! Whew! Mum was home late enough that I was able to clean up and she was none the wiser.

But she's been hogging the computer again making it hard for me to post! She said she's going to post pictures from O'Reilly's trip to visit the family in Tucson but I told her it HAD to be on her site! I can't believe he got cactus in him. I never had that problem when i was there!

Ok guyz sorry but since my Mum is gone in Tucson visiting her family and where i used to live i am having a hard time doing posts by myself. I confess, she does help me a little. So it's taken me a while but I finally figured it out and here I am ... back and crazy as ever!

Hope everyone had a great Christmas.

And we're gonna party crazy here at the kennels and warren since Mum is gone. no barkers - Big Dumb Puppy aka O'Reilly got to go wrestle with cactus in Tucson, Lakota is at Aunt Diane's and Betsy is with Aunt Janay's Mum and Dad for the holiday. So bunnies and bunny friendly critters have free roaming here!

Have a whatever you do for New Year's Eve! I hear Mum is going to play the Killer Bunnies card game! It's her favorite.

We will have extra hay, tons of yummy strawberry yogurt drops (my new favorite), fruits and nuts and i have lots of toys. We can even watch Wallace and Gromit and the Curse of the Were - Rabbit!

The other day The Fluffies over at Diva Kitty and the Fluffies and Winnie over at NC Bunny tagged us for a meme of 5 random things about me.

Finally I have a chance to do this and I suppose I'll let the other bunnies share some facts too!

But Me first!

Archi Ann:

1. I'm the cutest dutch bunny ever - yes this is a FACT not an opinion.
2. I don't like other bunnies!
3. I grunt and charge at people a lot but don't bite.
4. Well ok, I bit my Mum twice but only cuz she petted the neighbor dogs and i didn't like the smell.
5. I don't have a tail. I don't know why, i just don't

Riena:
1. I am a Netherlands Dwarf bunny. I don't know what that means but that's what I am!
2. I have lost 2 husbuns to doggie accidents.
3. I like living outside but prefer the indoor life.
4. I like having house privileges and waking my mom up when she's in bed
5. Right now I have to live in my enclosure because of O'Reilly, or as Archi Ann calls him Big Dumb Puppy.

Zinger:
1. I'm the cutest dutch bunny ever.
2. Oops, Archi says I can be the cutest MALE dutch bunny ever
3. I like to snuggle and lick my Mom on the neck.
4. I want to be friends with Riena but she doesn't want to be friends with me.
5. I don't mind the dogs at all and let them sniff me and lick me.

Archi here again and I AM THE CUTEST DUTCH BUNNY EVER! Just to clarify that!

Christmas Comes Early...

Well I'm not super happy about my blog getting taken over by the woofies again but I am happy about the news...

Betsy has a new Mom! Mum met her today and really likes her and she wants Betsy. She will take her after the holidays. She has another dog and likes to go camping and up to her cabin in the mountains. Betsy is going to have a very good life!

We are all very happy for her, though Mum and O'Reilly will miss her. The cool thing is she lives in the neighborhood so she will be close!

So tonight we celebrated and Mum let them have one of their Christmas presents early.

I will be back to blog my top 5 from DKM's tag tomorrow! But we did have to share this awesome news!

Riena here! I've commandeered the blog! I think Archi hogs all the fame and after she took off when I wasn't done commenting on the Bible fiasco I decided to figure out how to blog myself.

I don't really have much to say. I just wanted to say hi to everyone! Mom let me out to play and the doggies did real good. She kept me on her lap but he didn't try to catch me or anything! O'Reilly has really mellowed out with me, though Mom says he's still not ready for me to go mobile 24/7. I can't wait till he is though, I miss waking up Mom in the middle of the night hopping on the bed.

Well I better get outta here before Archi catches me!

Introducing...

Bun About Town

Hello there all my fur-riends and human bloggers too! My Mum told me about a tragic incident at the kennel/warren/chaos this weekend and being the concerned Bun that I am I wanted to get some opinions on it.

I'll save my opinion for last!

Here's the issue. Mum woke up Saturday to find her Bible, her friends copy of "Cesar's Way" by Cesar Millan and another friends' book cover all chewed up by the new foster puppy, Betsy. She knows it was Betsy cuz the other pups don't chew stuff like that but stick to their own stuff.

Mum says it's ok because Betsy is still learning how to live in a pack and in a house. Everything is new to her and she needs to learn what is ok and what isn't. So she's not upset at Betsy though she is very sad about losing a good chunk of the Bible her best friend gave her for her 30th birthday.

I wanted to find out what the Buns around thought about it - I'm not interviewing the dogs here because I'm sure they'd stand up for Betsy.

Riena, what do you think about this issue with Betsy chewing the Bible and other books?

Mphf - that's just silly, obviously she can't read so why would she try to chew a book? I smelled beef ribs cooking the other night so I'm sure she gets plenty of those!

And Zinger - as a Dutch bun like me, and naturally extremely intelligent, what is your take on this?

Oh my goodness, I can't eat! That's just ridiculous. I would never do that! Take away this bunny crack Mum - I can't even look at it. I've lost my appetite!

(mum wants me to note that Zinger STILL has not eaten the bunny crack)

As for me, Archi Ann, smartest animal in this family, I'm appalled! Granted, while mum had me in the house roaming free before Big Dumb Puppy (the first one O'Reilly) came, i never chewed a book! Well, okay, maybe i did, but only the spines, I would never ruin the insides. Well, sigh, I guess the covers were quite tasty too but never more than that! Well... sometimes, oh nevermind! At any rate I can't understand my Mum's attraction to those dumb dogs when they go and do stuff like this.

Hrumph, i'm disturbed. Excuse me I need to go away for awhile!

Well since Mum is so distracted by the new foster doggie I can't do a Monday Bunday post because she hasn't taken time to take a new picture of ME or any of my warren mates!

I like this picture of Betsy, even though it's blurry, because it shows her face the way she really is - HAPPY. she's a very happy dog, not the sad faced pup in the other pics.

OH, if you live in Southern California and would love a German Shepherd/Rhodesian Ridgeback mix girl let us know - we're taking adoption applications! She's a great dog, very EASY compared to Big Dumb Puppy!

Five Favorite Songs:
I kinda don't like music - mum listens to real weird stuff. but i like when she listens to Johnny Cash and Roger Miller. I can live without the hard music though. How can they even call that music?

Five Favorite Toys:
I like my pillows - not really toys but they're great. Keep me cozy and happy. And mum has this ball that torments me. She puts treats in it and I have to push it around to get the treats out. Very annoying! just put the treats in my bowl - geez.

Five Favorite Activities:

Grunting and charging the dogs, other bunnies and anyone else around, including mum sometimes.

Five Favorite Bad Habits:
Sorry but I don't have any bad habits, i'm just misunderstood. Sure I started pulling up the carpet but mum says the landlord bought tile to put down and they just haven't done it. So i'm helping by pulling up the carpet. And the baseboards, well they're boring! They need some bumps and curves and design in them. But now that I'm outside I don't do those things! I love my outdoor enclosure!

Well I don't have a picture to post, mum has been hogging the camera to take pics of the foster girl Betsy. She is very shy but she can't stay that way here. It's too crazy with all these animals here and around.

My Mum is hopeless

This is Betsy and she is being pulled from the same shelter/pound that O'Reilly came from. Tomorrow night Mum is bringing her into our kennel/warren/chaos to foster her! She is a Ridgeback mix and could possibly be from the same backyard breeder as OR!

Mum is only going to FOSTER HER (right mum?!!!). There are actually several people that want to adopt her. Her looks belie her personality. After meeting her Janay said:

Meet Betsy. She looks sad but don't let they eyes fool you! She is working it with her bedroom eyes! She was very happy yesterday and was very affectionate.

OR has the same bedroom eyes thing going on. Mum can't wait to meet her... I'm not convinced!

Riena let Mum snuggle her this morning, wrapped her in towel on her lap as she worked. The towel is so she doesn't chew holes in Mum's clothes!

Archi's Mum here. Pleased as punch to announce that Riena is safe and back in the house, in her house.

I did what I hate to do, but was better than leaving her out on her own. I locked the pups in the house and stuck a hose in the down under and flooded it. She came out, we played a short game of slow chase ... i walk slowly behind her and wait for her to hide behind something and then pick her up.

She'd never admit it but I think she's happy to be back in.

Once the puppy is more calm around the bunnies (he is getting better in spite of anything Archi Ann might say) I'll make her a house rabbit again. She was really good as a house bun, waking me up in the morning, doing bunny 500s and binkies in the living room!

And Archi got some time in her run today again. You can see her behind Cinnamon's ear :-)

So Mum is letting me have time in my enclosure again - yippee! It's so nice to be outside. She let me be out all afternoon and evening Saturday until the sun went down. Then she made me come back inside, which I must say I was none too happy about. But she promises to let me back out again after she gets home from church Sunday. She said she doesn't want me out when she can't supervise me. Well, it's not me that needs supervision, it's that dumb puppy. He'll be calm and just lay down and watch me but then every so often he gets too excited and starts pulling on the fence. I suppose Mum knows best. She's actually very proud of how that dumb puppy did today. It took him a little while but he finally started to settle down and she says that's a good sign.

Oh I guess he has a name, it's O'Reilly. But I think dumb puppy works just fine for me.

Here's a picture of him with his new stuffed toy Mum bought him, a Ladybug. Stuffed toys, how silly! I'd rather have treats!

Apparently Riena is not making it easy for Mum to catch her and get her in the house. Silly bunny. She's spending her days hiding in the tunnels under the shed that Luther dug for them and coming out at night to forage. This morning she was out and let Mum give her some veggies but when Mum tried to catch her she was back to the downunder. Mum doesn't want her outside alone.

Hi there y'all. My hope for freedom last Wednesday was very short lived. Mum says the pup O'Reilly is just too much of a puppy still. Everything is a game, he can't take anything seriously. So me coming out was also a game and he scared the pellets outta me!

So now Mum wears him out and then when he's really tired she sits on the floor with him in front of my cage and tries to get him more used to me so he will learn to be calm around me.

Recently there was a very ill feral cat that had moved in to the rabbit den under my shed. I was able to flood it out and get it to animal control so they could help it. In the process I was also finally able to catch Luther and Riena so that they could come inside and be safe from the puppies who love to chase them (but wouldn't hurt them). Riena is actually very happy about the situation. Much like Archi, she seems quite content to be her house while I am working with O'Reilly to accept them into his pack. He's doing well too. He's more curious than anything and likes the rabbits.

He also still loves his pool and goes out in the morning to take a dip, then comes in for a nap!

Anders wanted the chew hoof that OReilly was working on but wouldn't take it from him because i've alpha rolled him when he does.

So he went outside , found Archi's sisal ball with the bell in it, brought it inside, which of course interested OReilly so he came running over to get it. Anders gladly dropped it, ran into the dining room and grabbed the chew hoof!!!

Ridgebacks are not known for liking water... but these are puppies... I missed the best shot - my pup jumped in the pool and laid down! Ran in to get the camera and of course he got up to follow!

For those of you wondering if this is still a blog of "archi's antics" ... she's doing fine overseeing the pups from the safety of her cage... had to bring her inside for a while and she's very happy with that!
