saying goodbye

before you flame me for trying to get a bunny and a dog to live together in harmony... remember that i did it just fine for many years...

but today that ended...i awoke to find that Archi had died, at the "paw" of O'Reilly. He just isn't wired like Lakota is and Oliver was, to cohabitate with other critters. He had been doing fine for a month or so, but part of that was due to the fact that he had an injury keeping him from feeling great.

made me miss Oliver again today... and i'm REALLY missing Archi. This is hard.

this site will remain up as it is, a tribute to my best bun, Archi Ann, unique in all the world. she was soooo cool, all attitude and character.

i will continue any animal and personal postings at my blog, Archi's Mum (please update your bookmarks).

Ollie and Archi Ann (Lakota too but not in the pic) having popcorn together on "Movie Night"

i used to call this the "Family Pic" they really did all get along so well

Archi chillin' with Alex

Lakota wasn't quite sure when Archi first moved in... but they became buds...

"Move it Lakota, I want to sit under the cool air too!"

"Thanks for being my friend guys, I'll miss you all."

see you in heaven
guardian - swing, swang, swung

it's hard to say goodbye my friend but this waiting can't last forever
sooner or later the sun must set ending this time together

i wish that i had one more chance to spend another day with you
and even though i know i can't i'll see you in heaven
...
still i wish that i had one more chance to say i love you one more time
and even though i know i can't i'll say it in heaven

To Jo and Captain Rupert - Thank you for the beautiful painting that includes Archi, with perfect front legs, playing "Kiss Chase" with the squirrels... it's like a picture of her in heaven and will now be for me, a lasting treasure of memory...

Thank you ALL for your friendship over the blogs for so long. It's a fun thing and I have appreciated you all in so many ways. Thanks for the prayers, "purrayers," nose bumps, etc... this is REALLY HARD for me ... archi was a great friend.

i don't have a decision on my other two buns, chances are I will make the outdoor enclosure bulletproof and let them stay there. i'm torn but i still think they will have a better life here, semi enclosed, then they would some places. but my hopes for having a house rabbit again have vanished because O'Reilly has crossed the line.

Well, carry on ...

Maybe more words later ...

OMG, No!!!

Some dogs really are "wired" for living in harmony and some can do it for awhile and then something triggers that ancient instinct in them.

My poor Archi Ann, bunny pal! :-(

Peace to you at what must be a devastating time.

Archi Ann, you went too early...what about this summer's basil, and visiting Hugo and Eve...you'll be having the basil at the bridge, and some time you'll be meeting Hugo and Eve too...but not just yet. You're so very missed!!!

I have no words but feel your pain as if it was mine, as if she'd been one of mine. Be strong... she would not want you to be any other way.

Mommy wanted me to tell you that Archi Ann is visiting with the black fluffy that used to be in my pack. Spike never went outside and wouldnt have known what to do with a bunny if she ever saw one. So the probably thinks archi ann is a cat too.

Mommy also sends prayers for you, and hopes you can keep your mind on the nice things and that Jesus will heal the memory that needs to be forgotten- BARK! Sasha the Princess!

She walks in beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that’s best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes;
Thus mellowed to that tender light
Which heaven to gaudy day denies.

One shade the more, one ray the less,
Had half impaired the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven tress,
Or softly lightens o’er her face;
Where thoughts serenely sweet express,
How pure, how dear their dwelling-place.

And on that cheek, and o’er that brow,
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
The smiles that win, the tints that glow,
But tell of days in goodness spent,
A mind at peace with all below,
A heart whose love is innocent!

We will miss you Archi Ann

We will really miss Archi Ann. It has been so fun getting to know her the past months and having her come to visit our site. It was like catching up with an old friend. We will think of her at peace, hopping along on normal feets, and munching away on her basil plants.

And to you, Archi's Mum, we are thinking of you at this terrible time and sending you our good wishes and love. You did so much to make Archi Ann's life wonderful. Remember those times.

I've got tears in my eyes for a bunny I've never met.

This is why I do not like having Thani alone with our kitty Yoshi. It's not that I don't trust him but I can't risk something like this going wrong.

Thinking of you!

Oh Archi Ann! We will miss you so. Mommy is crying a bit, she is always very sad when somebunny passes away.

Weep not for me though I am gone into that gentle night.
Grieve if you will, but not for long, upon my soul's sweet flight.
I am mat peace, my soul's at rest, there is no need for tears.
For with your love I was so blessed for all those many years.
There is no pain, I suffer not, the fear now all is gone.
Put now these things out of your thoughts, in your memory I live on.
Remember not my fight for breath, remember not the strife,
Please do not dwell upon my death, but celebrate my life.

I've seen you comment on Bunnygirl's blog, and I wanted to say I'm so sorry to hear the sad news about Archi. My heart goes out to you at this heartbreaking time. Sending comfort and hugs.

Don't stand by my grave and weep
For I'm not there, I do not sleep
I am a thousand winds that blow
I am the diamonds glint on snow
I am the sunlight on ripened grain
I am the gentle autumn's rain.

When you awaken in morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circle flight
I am the soft stars that shine at night
Do not stand by my grave and cry
I am not there, I did not die.

I'm so sad for you. This is my first site visit - Bunnygirl posted the news.

Please don't beat yourself up. My friend has a bunny, two dogs (cockapoo and chihuahua) and two cats all living together/no cages, and the bunny does just fine. Sounds like O'Reilly didn't know his own strength. Sadly these types of accidents do happen.

big ((HUGS)) to you all.

Oh, no! We're all in shock at this news. How terrible for you to lose your lovely Archi Ann.

We send purrs and prayers your way.

Oh, your comment, before you flame me, just registered. We doubt anyone will try to blame you for what happened. Animals can live together in peace. But sometimes things happen when we least expect it.

We recently read an article on a dog that suddenly killed a cat and they had lived together for a long while too.

It was a terrible thing to have happen, but it was not your fault.

Still so hard to believe, and so very sad .. no more Archie. She was such a special one and you brought out all her traits and "Attitudes" so well - nobody who "knew" her will forget her.

It was a great job you did to keep her so well, so long ... not many would have.

Sometimes Mother Nature is a bitch.

Someone posted the picture of the "bath" .. maybe on the Puddy blog .. and thankfully that made us laugh and remember what a great run it was.

Archie is also on page 176 of DR, remember, so she is enshrined for posterity!

How hard it is to no more be able to open Archi's Antics and see what the wise little cutie is up to.

But we all shall move along and keep the happy memories. Thanks for those.

Good luck ...

I just found out today (Tuesday) looking at the blog of a mutual friend. At first I didn't understand. Then I hurried over here as fast as I could.

My heart plummeted when I read the sad, sad news.

Oh I am SO sorry! Poor baby. But Archi's mum has a little angel of her own, now.

I haven't been visiting much lately and just came over to see what Archi Ann was up to. I am so sorry that this happened. Don't beat yourself up over it. As you said, you had dogs and bunnies together for many years with no problems. I am really going to miss Archie Ann. She was so much fun. You will see her again. She's probably pigging out on basil at the Bridge right now.

if anyone flamed you for this then they are total a-holes. me and my brother Castle (we are siamese cats) lived with our friend Dubbs the Rabbit (Dutch) for many years without any mishaps, before he passed away...like you say, it can be done...just some animals aren't wired for it. hope you have been OK since Archie went to play with our friend Dubbs at the Bridge xxx

Archie's probably up there playing with our little Bort. They're both cute little brown and white dutch bunnies. And probably both friendly as can be!
